#3613: New Sounds Live: The Gloaming in The Greene Space (Part 1)

Irish music super group The Gloaming perform live in The Greene Space, presented by New Sounds

From the New Sounds Live Concerts, listen to the Irish-American "Supergroup" The Gloaming, recorded at our own Jerome L. Greene Space in June 2014. The all-star ensemble is made up of extraordinary musicians: New York pianist Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman), Chicago guitarist Dennis Cahill, gifted Irish fiddler Martin Hayes, hardanger innovator Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Irish master singer Iarla Ó Lionáird. Together, their collective sound creates a haunted world where spellbinding sounds of Celtic music meet the spare rhythms of minimalism and the artistic ferment of New York’s post-rock, post-classical scene. Host John Schaefer also interviews the musicians from the stage.

What makes the Gloaming different from other Irish bands is the collective sum of their accomplished parts: a singer, two fiddlers, guitarist and pianist; and a willingness to explore, darken, linger, and expand on traditional forms, like reels, jigs and ballads.  Hear the band's spellbinding display from that evening's intimate performance.  (Part 1 of 2)
