Hear music from the brand-new collaborative record by Son Lux (aka Ryan Lott) and the top-notch New York-based chamber ensemble yMusic, called First. yMusic’s acoustic instrumentation - violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinets and trumpet – is deployed, on “Eleven” with an implied electronic pulse that rotates between pairs, along with glitchy interjections of solo instruments. Steve Reich’s “Eight Lines” has much the same sort of pulse basis, punctuated by flutes and other textures. Listen to that 1980 work, and more music from First by Son Lux and yMusic.
