Pedal steel player Luke Schneider plays pedal steel, dobro, and banjo with Orville Peck, and until recently, was part of Margo Price’s band; he’s also performed with Caitlin Rose and Natural Child, in addition to session work. But his solo music might be described as atmospheric soundscapes that are an unholy fusion of outlaw country’s weepy twang and Brian Eno drones. Nashville-based Schneider has just released a new record of experimental and dreamy drone music for the end of the world, called Altar of Harmony. All of the sounds on this album were made with a 1967 Emmons Push/Pull pedal steel guitar, no matter how unrecognizable it might sound after processing (with Electro-Harmonix pedals.) Luke Schneider joins us from the Third Man Records Studios to play some of these hypnotic and meditative creations for this New Sounds.

There's also music by Brian Eno, with Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno, from the atmospheric Apollo, as well as music from Brian Eno and Robert Fripp. Plus, ambient music from Chas Smith who uses pedal steel guitar in spacey, electronic-influenced ways.
