AMOC performs John Adams’ El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered

AMOC presents John Adams’ El Niño: Nativity Reconsidered at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine
Dec. 21. 7:30PM. $35 suggested.

Composer John Adams is best known for his operas, Nixon In China, The Death of Klinghoffer, Doctor Atomic – which got to the Oppenheimer story before the movie Oppenheimer did. His Christmas oratorio El Nino is a Latin-tinged retelling of the Nativity story using visionary poems by several centuries of Mexican women. It’s also an overlooked gem, probably because of its huge scale. But AMOC, the American Modern Opera Company, has revised it, scaled it down and brought it back. AMOC performs their chamber music arrangement of John Adams’ El Niño on Dec. 21 in the Cathedral of St John The Divine.
