Shabaka Hutchings – "Prints Tie" (Weekly Music Roundup)
Many of the greatest American jazz musicians recorded for Blue Note Records. Now, that label has offered tracks from their extensive catalog to some of the leading British jazz musicians, like sax player Shabaka Hutchings, one of the star players on London’s exciting, diverse jazz scene. He’s done a version of “Prints Tie,” originally by vibe/marimba master Bobby Hutcherson. The groove is recognizably the same as in that 1971 recording, but Hutchings replaces the original’s cosmic mood with something earthier, and street-wise. Shabaka Hutchings and "Prints Tie" is from the collection Blue Note Re:Imagined, and is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
